Homoeopathy has been established for well over 200 years. A Doctor called Samuel Hahnemann originated the practise, in Germany in 1796
He agreed that Hippocrates, two thousand years before, was right in the realisation that there are two ways of treating disease; by using opposites or by using similars, a little like 'the hair of the dog'. Therefore a substance that can cause symptoms, such as coffee causing insomnia, when given in a Homoeopathic dose, can cure those symptoms.
Homoeopathy is a scientific healing system, which stimulates the body's natural ability to heal itself. It looks on the disease symptoms as the expression of disharmony within the whole person, and so holistically treats the patient, not the illness. Unlike conventional medicine Homoeopathic remedies do not cause side effects or have addictive qualities.
Because Homoeopathy looks at the whole person it can treat all aspects of the patient including physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual, if these areas are part of the suffering. Not only can it treat common complaints, but also degenerative and life threatening diseases. It can also be useful for conditions not helped by other types of treatment or medicine.
When you visit a Homoeopath the consultations can be quite lengthy, to allow the time necessary to look at all aspects of the patient and their life. Questions are asked about any ailments you have and how they affect you, any medication prescribed by your doctor, about your own and family medical history, and about your lifestyle.
Homoeopathic remedies usually come in pill form, which should be allowed to dissolve in the mouth (they are not unpleasant) Sometimes a remedy is given in liquid form with instructions of how to use it. It is best to store your homoeopathic remedies in a cool, dark place, away from any strong smells.
After taking homoeopathic remedies some people feel on top of the world. Sometimes symptoms will worsen for a short time, which is a good sign that the remedy is working. Some people will experience a detoxification process in some form, such as a cold, rash, or slight tummy upset. Old symptoms experienced some time ago may also reappear. Any of these symptoms should pass quite quickly and need not be treated as they are an important part of the natural healing process.
